Best Western Reading Calcot Hotel

Bath Rd, Calcot, Reading RG31 7QN, UK – 0118 941 6423

A surprising gem of a hotel! Stayed here for 2 nights. Rooms were basic (nothing glamorous) but were amazingly clean with attractive decor that emphasized the quaint / historic quality. They had the deepest and most luxurious modern bathtubs I have ever seen in a hotel!!! Unlimited hot water and a bathtub that goes up to your chin. Staff were extremely quick and personal, too. I loved it!

A great place to stop over when you're on a long drive - it is clean, comfortable and friendly with good beds, powerful showers, fluffy towels and a full English breakfast. Early 90s decor in the public areas, but the staff and service make it excellent value. Overall, we'd definitely stay there again.

Hotel ibis Styles Reading Oxford Rd

648-654 Oxford Rd, Reading RG30 1EH, UK – 0118 359 3290

The staff are friendly and the rooms are functional if a little basic. The food is adequate but I'd suggest eating out. Can't really complain as it's very reasonably priced. The location is good for those who may want to be visiting other places nearby.

A little noisy but nice extras, good sized rooms and super helpful staff.

Lovely staff, nice clean rooms

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Volunteer

65 Church St, Theale, Reading RG7 5BX, UK – 0118 930 2489

Love coming here. Great friendly owners. Think the kitchen staff are different every time we visit, but we've always been happy! Certainly our choice of pub over the other options in Theale.

seating for a group of more than 4 is a little limited but the food is good and the staff are pleasant.

Fox & Hounds

116 City Rd, Reading RG31 5SB, UK – 0118 942 2982

Excellent! Fantastic location next to a canal! Excellent staff, quality food! Run by a family. Dog friendly. They have a darts board, which is a big bonus! :-)

Been in & out for years.... always a plaesure... beware the spicy Pork Scratchings..... lol.. Well done Tom.. 👍😂😂

The Bull

41 High St, Theale, Reading RG7 5AH, UK – 0118 930 3478

Just got on bus to anywhere. Ended up getting off at Theale. Went into the Bull for lunch. Lovely Pub, great staff and friendly atmosphere. The food was delicious but to much for me. Sorry I couldn't eat it all. But I would recommend going here.

I thought the food was alright. It did taste like it was more on the heated side rather than freshly cooked. Although I have had a lot worst food in other places. The waitress was nice to the tables around me by asking them how was the food, but she did not ask me. To be fair, I think it was because I was not white English, so if you are concerned about this then DON'T GO, but if you like me, can live happily if when treated like this, then go. I would go again, even though they do not like ethnic minorities. Saying that, I am happy to accept, it could be an oversight of the waitress, because I am an easy going person.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!
