Abbey Windows (Thames Valley) Ltd

50a Portman Rd, Reading RG30 1BA, UK – 0118 956 6866

We have visited the showroom on two occasions, once without booking an appointment. Both visits were positive experiences and the front room staff were both welcoming and knowledgeable. Anna, in particular was extremely helpful and offered me a chair without waiting for me to ask. On our 2nd visit Andrew helped us through the complexity of the ordering process and he proved to be a mine of information. Abbey sell good products and give an excellent service. They also have a good showroom.

Having worked with Abbey window since nearly the beginning They never fail to impress me with the quality of product , craftsmanship, professionalism and general efficiency that runs through the whole company. We use Abbey windows often and when we do they offer us peace of mind knowing that when they are instructed the job will be done well and on time and with a great aftercare.

Local Parks & Gardens

Prospect Park

Liebenrood Rd, Reading RG30 2ND, UK – 0118 937 3045

Gorgeous Park, easy access. Play park for children and usually ice cream van parked up close too it. Plenty of green fields for a walk and let your dog run free. There is a pond in the middle, can you find it? Football courts are there too plus at top of the hill nice harvester restaurant.

Really scenic, clean and plenty to do . My favourite park in Reading by far. A lovely atmosphere with frequent visits by fun fairs. The mansion house offers you a variety of food to chose from if you wish to eat, infant and older child playground, sand pit, tennis and basketball courts , totally recommended.

The Arthur Newbery Park

12 Larissa Cl, Reading RG31 6LE, UK

Only just discovered this place after living in Tilehurst over 20 years. A real oasis of peace and quiet in the middle of Tilehurst. Great location for walking your dog.

Nice place to walk your dog. If you do, please pick up after him/her. Other people do not need to see that.

Mapledurham Playing Fields & Pavilion

129 Upper Woodcote Rd, Reading RG4, UK – 0118 901 5035

Seems odd to review playing fields, but this location is great for people taking their dog for a walk. It is fairly enclosed, although the top end has no fencing along Hewett Avenue, and the car park is open to the entrance road (as you would expect). There are 4 or 5 football pitches, and also smaller training areas. The pitches are often used when other local pitches have been flooded, although the whole area can get quite muddy. The pavillion is a complete mess which needs some major work. There is an enclosed playing area with climbing frame/zip wire/swings etc but I'm not too sure what state they are in these days. Also a small wooded area in which it is fairly safe to let your dog roam, as I believe all the houses have good fencing. Be it a good thing, or a bad thing, there are plans to build a school on the grounds. We are assured that it will not take any of the football pitches, and so I assume there will be plenty of room for the dogs to 'run off their leads'. I do have major concerns about access, increased traffic and safety.

Great place for a walk and watch the boats float by on the River Thames.

Great website!. Click below to find gardens open during the year around Calcot or Berkshire. There are photos and lots of detail about the garden.

The Sunday Times Wine Club

1 Waterside Dr, Theale, Reading RG7 4SW, UK – 0333 014 2776

Long time member, same old wines. Although the whites are varied and my preferred tipple the reds are the same ones we have had for years. Far too many heavy reds, too few light Loire or Rhone reds. The STWC used to find great new growers now it seems the impetus has gone. As a member of 40 years at least, I am considering giving up, Tesco offer a good range!

Calcot Park Golf Course

7RN, Bath Rd, Calcot, Reading RG31, UK – 0118 942 7124

Great coach staff Gareth has done a wonderful job their beautiful layout of a golf course Great greenkeeper and staff Good Food recommend visiting any day of the year
